RECOVER Certification

The Reassessment Campaign on Veterinary Resuscitation (RECOVER) initiative is a non-profit program dedicated conducting high-quality education, evidence search, and CPR guideline creation. Keep your team up-to-date with this vital certification.

The Course

2-3 Hour Course

RECOVER certifications require team members to pass the online portion of RECOVER training before they can be certified. The online portion is separate from what AVTS offers, but we can assist you in getting signed up for it. The certification sessions are a review of the online learning combined with hands-on instruction and verification that team members can successfully and efficiently perform CPR for your patients. RECOVER certifications with Dave Cowan, CVT, VTS (ECC) are limited to a maximum of 10 attendees per session. Multiple sessions can be booked to accommodate the entire staff. We will bring the necessary equipment for these sessions. We just need a space large enough for 10 people like a conference room, treatment space, or even your hospital waiting room.

The gold standard of CPR…

Basic Life Support (BLS):

The focus is on compressions and ventilation. There is some review of the online portion. Attendees will be practicing using CPR models with guidance from the instructor. After a few rounds of practicing, we move on to the certification where team members will be evaluated to ensure everyone can properly perform BLS CPR.

Advanced Life Support (ALS):

Advanced Life Support (ALS): BLS is the same as above. ALS involves monitoring, IV fluids, reversals, medications, etc. We run practice scenarios with guidance from the instructor until the team feels comfortable. The certifications involve running “mega codes” that the instructor will use to evaluate the team members ability to perform BLS and ALS.
